The PRIVIDEMA consortium is pleased to announce that our partner CEA successfully presented the scientific paper “Threshold (T)FHE without smudging by means of correct threshold additive HE” at AFRICACRYPT 2026, following its acceptance to the conference proceedings. AFRICACRYPT is the annual International Conference on Cryptology in Africa, organized in cooperation with the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR), and is recognized as a leading forum for advances in cryptography and information security. The 2026 edition took place in Hammamet, Tunisia, from 8–10 July 2026.
The paper, authored by researchers from CEA, addresses an important challenge in threshold Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE). Threshold FHE enables multiple parties to jointly decrypt encrypted computation results without relying on a single trusted entity, making it highly relevant for secure collaborative data processing. The proposed approach introduces a novel method that eliminates the need for traditional “smudging” or noise-flooding techniques, which are commonly used to prevent information leakage during distributed decryption but often result in significant performance overhead. By combining TFHE with a correct threshold additive homomorphic encryption scheme, the authors demonstrate a more efficient and practical construction while maintaining strong security guarantees.
This research directly aligns with PRIVIDEMA’s objective of advancing privacy-preserving computation technologies for secure digital identity management and cyber threat intelligence applications. Fully Homomorphic Encryption is one of the core privacy-enhancing technologies investigated within the project, enabling computations on encrypted data without exposing sensitive information.
The acceptance and presentation of this paper at a prestigious international cryptography conference highlights the scientific excellence of the PRIVIDEMA consortium and contributes to the broader dissemination of project results within the cybersecurity and privacy research communities.
The paper is available through the IACR ePrint Archive: “Threshold (T)FHE without smudging by means of correct threshold additive HE” (View paper).
We congratulate our colleagues at CEA on this achievement and look forward to further scientific contributions emerging from the PRIVIDEMA project.
